“Meditation is a continuous flow of perception or thought like the flow of water in a river”
Swami Vishnu- devananda
Meditation is the practice of offering a constant observation of the mind. It means focusing the mind on a point, stilling the mind in order to perceive the Self. By stopping the waves of thoughts you come to understand your true nature and discover the wisdom and tranquillity that lie within. Consciously or unconsciously we are seeking the peace of mind that meditation brings.
Yoga teaches us that we possess a source of joy and wisdom already inside us a fund of tranquillity that we can perceive and draw nourishment from when the movement of the mind is still. If we can channel this desire for contentment inward instead of attaching it to external objects that are ephemeral by nature, we can discover how to live in peace and happiness.
Meditation, like sleep, cannot be taught- it comes by itself, at its own time. But if you follow the right steps, to begin with, you can speed up your progress considerably.
To help you to understand the basic steps and stages of meditation, I invited you to a special Guided Meditation class. Guided meditation is when you are guided, by a narrator, to elicit a specific change in your life. You are first guided to relax your body and mind, to help you reach a deep meditative state before going on a journey, in your spirit & mind, to reach a specific goal.
The most essential thing is to establish meditation as a regular habit in your life, using the same place and time each day. After a few months of regular practice, your mind will begin to demand this quiet of its own accord.
Benefits of Meditation:
- By using simple meditation techniques you will slowly accustom your mind to a state of concentration
- You will begin to notice that external influences are having less effect on you
- Your inner core is growing stronger
- You gain the security of knowing that in the midst of the changes that are life’s essence, you can remain constant and assured.
- You can simply detach yourself from your thoughts and watch your mind.
